To grant this outstanding recognition, the prize management team of the UAE considered the ICAO data for the last three years. After extensive research, they concluded that the Dominican Republic carried out the completion of the most significant number of air agreements.
The award instituted in honor of Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Rasid Al Maktoum, means recognition to the national authorities, and a further challenge for the country. The objective is to continue implementing airport policies aimed at the insertion of international air services markets. Recently, the Dominican Republic has gone up 15 places in the ranking of the best-connected countries worldwide. This fact places the D.R. in position number 47, according to the World Bank’s Air Connectivity Index.

Moreover, this policy has led to encouraging development from other sectors such as tourism, commerce, and higher demand as a source of employment.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the civil aviation board stated that “For the Dominican Republic the award must be a source of great satisfaction.” The fact that the D.R. achieved a higher score among other countries and equal score with Singapore in outstanding global connectivity over 193 nations that constitute the ICAO highlights the prestige of the country.
To date, the country has entered into formal air transport relations with 66 States and Governments, of which 37 have been signed since September 2016. Nevertheless, there are currently five more agreements under negotiation.
