Dream City Cultural Center
Art Contest 2019
Open call for artists
The Dream City Cultural Center to be located in the Puerto Plata Province will be the biggest cultural center in the country accessible to the local communities and tourists who come to our region. It will celebrate all the rich industries indigenous to the Dominican Republic. It will represent the Dominican world famous cigar, rum, chocolate and coffee industries as well as their production processes. The Cultural Center will also show the rich Dominican art history, jewelry, music and sports. The grand opening of the Center will take place in March 2020.
An integral part of the Cultural Center will be an art gallery and Larger-Than-Life sculptures installation. Dream City is now inviting Dominican artists and artists of Dominican origins to send proposals for art works and projects to participate in the contest.
Who can submit?
All individual visual and cross-disciplinary artists and artist groups of all ages and training with the Dominican citizenship or of Dominican ancestry are welcome to submit project proposals for the exhibition.
All types of visual art, except for performance, writing, video and sound art, are accepted for this competition. Since we are going to present works outside the gallery context, proposals for outdoor works and installations, or as we call it Larger-Than-Life sculptures, are being considered. Please check the featured images below as an example.
Approximately 10 projects will be chosen for the outdoor installation around the Cultural Center. The works should be inspired by the Dominican art, culture and history. The main purpose of the exhibition is to celebrate the wealth, richness, authenticity and uniqueness of the Dominican culture and nation and to promote it globally. Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria: original, comprehensive, impressive, related to the Dominican culture.
The chosen Larger-Than-Life art projects will receive the necessary funds for the realization from the Cultural Center. They will become the permanent elements of the Cultural Center which is expected to receive approximately 2,000 national and international visitors per day. The arts will have plaques with the authors’ names which will give immense international promotion opportunities.
The winners will be also invited to the Grand Opening ceremony in March 2020. All accommodations and food for the winners will be provided by the Dream City Cultural Center Art Contest organizers. The artists will get good networking opportunities because many prominent social activists, politicians and famous people will attend the event.
The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges consisting of reputable high profile art experts from the Dominican Republic and other countries.
The competition is free to enter. Please click the link to the Cultural Center website to get to the application form Call for Artists.
